Uniforms, or karate gi as they are referred to, are very important to the whole karate experience. They are traditionally white in color. Only the belt changes color as you progress. The belt holds the top part of the uniform together tightly so that you can easily maneuver.

The fabric (cotton) of the uniform may feel heavy at first, but soon the wearer will not even notice it.

The top part of the uniform has two strings on each side. One goes on the inside and the other around the back of the outfit. There is an art to getting it tied correctly, but with a little practice it will come easy.

The fabric for karate uniforms comes in various weights. Traditionally lightweight or medium weight uniforms are used for beginners, super heavy-weight for experienced practitioners.

Your customers should have their measurements (hips, arms, waist, and legs) ready when making a purchase. This will help you to make sure they are getting the correct size. Having a uniform that fits properly will help them feel more confident when practicing and competing. Customers can even purchase tops and pants in different sizes if necessary.

Since the fabric for our top quality karate uniforms is cotton, make sure you buy pre-shrunk material or advise your customers to buy a slightly larger size as the garment will shrink in the wash.

Uniforms in 100% cotton are preferable because they allow the body to breathe and tend to absorb sweat. Less expensive polyester/cotton blends do not absorb sweat nearly as well.

If at all possible try to purchase pants with a drawstring waistband. These are preferred over elastic waistbands because they secure the pants while doing kicks.

Be sure that the hem of the waistband is twice as wide as the string so that you don’t have to worry about tangling after every wash. Also make sure that the pants have double inseams. Your customers will not want to have to worry about any embarrassing splits!

Often karate uniforms can also be purchased in tournament style or traditional cut. Traditional cut means the sleeves and pants are longer. Tournament style has longer pants and sleeves.

Regardless of the style, you want a generous cut to the uniform that will allow freedom of movement during workouts. The uniform should enhance an individual’s performance, not inhibit it – and that's exactly what the uniforms produced by XRaju do.
